Since the 1970s, disc golf has grown in popularity all over the world. If you’ve never heard of it before, the object of the game is actually really simple: toss a disc (similar to a Frisbee, but smaller and heavier) into a basket in as few throws as possible. It’s like golf, but easier and cheaper to play. Thankfully, our apartments in Chapel Hill are close to some of the best places for disc golf. Our favorite nearby courses include:
Southern Community Park
The closest disc golf park is conveniently within walking distance of Southern Village. Southern Community Park (nicknamed “Dogwood Acres”) has an 18-hole course. The majority of holes are between 300 and 400 feet. While that might sound easy, there are plenty of trees to maneuver through. In addition to disc golf, you can also hike their brand-new fitness trail or play with your pup in the dog park.
Anderson Community Park
If you’re looking for some variety, Anderson Community Park in Carrboro is only a 10-minute drive from Southern Village. Indeed, this 18-hole course is a great alternative to Southern Community Park because it has a mixture of open and wooded holes. After you’re done with disc golf, you can spend several more hours at Anderson playing volleyball, tennis, or basketball. If you have a fishing pole and license, you can even cast your line at the 2.4-acre fishing pond.
Leigh Farm Park
There is a rich history behind the land and buildings at Leigh Farm Park in Durham. Take some time to explore the park before you play. Once you’re ready for some disc golf, you can choose between the advanced or recreational courses. Of the 18 holes, three are over 400 feet, making this a challenging course. Once you’re done playing, you can enjoy a picnic under the shade of the trees.
